About The Event
Join us for an Author Talk, "The Silent Shore" with Dr. Charles Chavis, Jr. of George Mason University at Stony Run Friends Meeting. Dr. Chavis is a scholar and an activist for equity. Co-sponsored by Stony Run & Homewood Friends Meetings, and the Lillie Carroll Jackson Civil Rights Museum, "The Silent Shore" promises to be thought provoking, informative, and insightful. Dr. Chavis will delve into his research on the spectacle lynching in 1931 of Matthew Williams, a 23 year old black man in Salisbury, Maryland, by a white mob. This horrific event more than 90 years ago has relevance for those who seek to understand the politics of racism and shine a light on anti-Black violence.
This is a FREE event. However, please register to give the organizers an idea of the audience.. You have the option to pre-purchase Dr. Chavis' book here on Eventbrite with your FREE ticket. Onsite book sales will also be available.
