About The Event

Join us on Saturday, May 23 for the newly launched LCJM Literacy Series (formerly the Book Club) as we discuss The Black Butterfly by Dr. Lawrence T. Brown. In this urgent and deeply researched work, Dr. Brown examines how historic and ongoing policies have shaped Baltimore’s segregated neighborhoods and public health disparities—revealing how systemic inequities continue to influence cities across the country.

Dr. Brown will be onsite to discuss his book in conversation with Lisa Mitchell, great-granddaughter of Dr. Lillie Carroll Jackson. Together, they will explore the intersections of history, policy, and justice in a space rooted in Baltimore’s civil rights legacy.

3:30 PM – Optional Self-Guided Museum Tours

4:00 PM – Book Discussion Conversation with Dr. Lawrence T. Brown facilitated by Lisa Mitchell

5:00 PM – Book Signing & Community Fellowship (Books available for purchase onsite)

Registration is strongly encouraged—seating will fill quickly.
