About The Event

The Lillie Carroll Jackson Civil Rights Museum invites you to a compelling book discussion on Saturday, February 15th, at 3:30 PM, facilitated by Lisa Mitchell Sennaar. Our special guest, Dr. George Derek Musgrove, will discuss his groundbreaking book, Rumor, Repression, and Racial Politics: How the Harassment of Elected Officials Shaped Post-Civil Rights America.

About the Book: Historians have exhaustively documented how African Americans gained access to electoral politics in the mid-1960s, but few have scrutinized what happened next. Dr. Musgrove’s book examines Black elected officials’ allegations of “harassment” by the state and media to uncover new insights into the role of race in U.S. politics from 1965–1995.
