About The Event

Old headlines. New perspectives. Real talk.

Thursday, May 8, from 12–1 PM, join us for ReReading the News: The Mother of the Movement — a live virtual event honoring the extraordinary legacy of Dr. Lillie May Carroll Jackson, civil rights pioneer and the AFRO’s 1957 "Ideal Mother."

We’ll kick off with a historic reading from the AFRO Archives, followed by a powerful conversation featuring scholars, descendants, and cultural leaders reflecting on Dr. Jackson’s impact as President of the Baltimore NAACP and her lasting influence across generations.

Watch live on IG (@afrocharities & @lmcjmuseum) and on The AFRO’s Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

Presented by Afro Charities and the Lillie Carroll Jackson Civil Rights Museum. Streaming powered by AFRO News.
